Sunglasses Awards 2019

The Sunglasses Awards reward excellence in sunglasses retail, shining the spotlight on the most progressive travel retailers in one of the channel’s consistently fastest-growing categories. The awards ceremony will be held in Cannes, France during TFWA World Exhibition and is co-sponsored and judged by leading sunglasses suppliers De Rigo, Essilor, Kering Eyewear, Luxottica, Marchon, Marcolin, Maui Jim and Safilo.

New for the 2019 Awards, each retailer is allowed to enter only one submission per award category (i.e. you can enter all categories, but only once per category). Also, as per last year, the previous year's winners will not be able to win the same award category in consecutive years. The 2018 winners will be invited to pass the baton to 2019 winners.

Best New Sunglasses Environment

This award will be bestowed on what the Jury will find to be the most outstanding New Environment for sunglasses, whether it is a stand-alone store or a dedicated area within larger multi-category space. In order to qualify, the new environment must have opened after 1st November 2018.

The overall environment will be judged from a variety of angles, including space planning, shopper appeal in merchandising and atmosphere, use of innovation and the latest technology, quality of fittings and sales performance since opening.

Best Dedicated Sunglasses Sales Team

This award will be presented to the retailer that demonstrates the best and most effective Dedicated Sunglasses Sales Team. The sales team must be a minimum of 3 people to qualify.

The dedicated sunglasses sales teams will be judged on their perceived passion for the role and success in the field, as well as their financial performance from 1st November 2018.

The judges will take into consideration sales experience the team delivers, internal staff engagement programmes and customer-facing engagement tools. It’s not just how great the team is, it’s also about what tools were put in place to allow the team to be successful.

Best Digital Initiative for the Sunglasses Category

This award category recognizes innovative and consumer-centric digital initiatives for the sunglasses category. These may comprise a savvy social media campaigns, cutting-edge E-commerce platform or innovative omni-channel activity. In order to qualify, these must have taken place after 1st November 2018.

Winner: Shilla Duty Free

Best Marketing Activity: On-Airport

This award category recognises clear, smart and effective marketing initiatives for the sunglasses category, within the airport. These may comprise an awareness-raising communications campaign, in-store promotional activities or other omni-channel strategies. In order to qualify, these must have taken place after 1st November 2018.

Entrants should articulate how they set out clear goals and targets for the activity, establishing a clear call to action and ultimately demonstrate a return on their investment with, ideally, an uplift in sales during/following the initiative. Uniqueness and originality will also be evaluated by the judges.

Best Marketing Activity: Off-Airport

This award category recognises clear, smart and effective marketing initiatives for the sunglasses category, off-airport. These may comprise an awareness-raising communications campaign, in-store promotional activities or other omni-channel strategies. In order to qualify, these must have taken place after 1st November 2018.

Best Off-Airport Sunglasses Retailer

This award will be given to the off-airport retailer that best demonstrates true efforts towards maximising sunglasses sales in their off-airport outlets. This may cover a range of activities such as offering a definitive range of brands, cutting-edge in-store technology, stunning store environments, dynamic marketing, dedicated and highly trained sales staff as well as outstanding sales performance.

The judges will analyse the quality and success of the retailer/retail operations while also considering whether the retailer demonstrates they are offering a world-class shopping experience to their guests, showcasing brands and actively driving sales.

Sunglasses Retailer of the Year (under USD2bn)

This award will go to the retailer which demonstrates the very highest standards across all fields, including store environment, product variety and curation, staff training and motivation, customer facing communications and promotions, commercial performance and most of all, consistency of all these across its retail estate.

A clear strategy, delivery and results are vital to be crowned the best Sunglasses Retailer 2018.

Sunglasses Retailer of the Year (over USD2bn)

This award will go to the retailer which demonstrates the very highest standards across all fields, including store environment, product variety and curation, staff training and motivation, customer facing communications and promotions, commercial performance and most of all, consistency of all these across its retail estate.
